SSCS: The Canadian Seal Hunt is Dead!
From: Sea Shepherd
"...We’ve been arrested, beaten by police and by sealers, lost a ship, and we’ve been vilified across Canada as eco-terrorists, extremists and traitors. We even devised a cruelty free, non-lethal sealing alternative of brushing off molting fur from the white coats because it has the same properties as eider down. The government rejected our alternative.
The government wanted the seals to die. But in the end we won! The Canadian seal slaughter is commercial-dead and it will have no place in the 21st Century. This anachronistic barbaric enterprise is being tossed into the dustbin of history where it belongs, and finally after a lifetime of struggle to end it, this obscene embarrassment is for all intents and purposes – dead(...) It was a struggle that began in the Sixties and now the commercial slaughter has ended and it will only be a few more years until the kills dwindle down to what the sadistic savages in the Magdalen Islands of Quebec and a few outposts of Newfoundland kill for recreation. We took on the Canadian government and the governments of Quebec, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. We took on the Canadian and Norwegian fur industry and the Canadian Sealing Association. We took them on and through determination, perseverance and patience we confronted and wore the killers down, year after year, utilizing the most powerfully effective weapon ever invented – the camera. Through visuals, through drama and through the media we made the world aware of this atrocity against marine wildlife and we kept them aware, reminding the international public that our passion for the cause never died.
Year after year we were in the face of the killers and year after year we grew stronger as the killers grew weaker.
Next month the Canadian government will once again toss some ridiculously high kill quota out followed by offers of subsidies (i.e. welfare) in their continued pathetic quest to keep the seal slaughter alive in the face of practically universal condemnation. It matters not. They will fail. The writing is now on the wall and the seal hunt will be no more."
We have won. The seals have won. The Canadian seal hunt is dead! Long live the seals."

Alemanha inova "ciclovias"

_London Student Protests-Undercover Cops
_There is discussion as to whether the police embedded within the
student march not in uniform were ‘plain clothes’ or ‘undercover’. We
say they are all undercover coppers and should be treated as such. Any
non-uniformed copper acting covertly, pretending to be something they
are not and with a disguised proactive agenda should be considered
undercover regardless of their technical role.
If a non uniformed copper does not immediately identify himslf as a
copper when challenged or show his warrant card when asked to do so is
acting undercover. That said below are the images of identified
undercover coppers who made violent arrests at the student demo.
Remember these faces and if possible put a name to them. Any information regarding these people will be useful. Information we have the cop in the baseball cop (first picture) was the one giving instructions to the others. A little further information. They all seem to be wearing pale blue wristbands. http://n9anarchistbloc.wordpress.com/2011/11/11/undercover-cops-on-nov-9-name-and-shame/ raiva xvx 12/11/2011 |

Two arrested attempting to break into a Sioux City, Iowa mink and fox farm
http://www.voiceofthevoiceless.org/breaking-two-arrested-for-attempted-break-in-at-iowa-fur-farm/
Little information is available, but local media is reporting two “animal activists” have been arrested at a fur farm in Sioux City, Iowa. The arrests were made October 10th, just three days after 1,200 mink were released from the Palmer Erickson fur farm in Jewell, Iowa, approximately 3 hours away.
Arrested were Kellie Marshall, 29, and Victor Vandoren, 24, both of Austin, Texas.
Police captured the pair after they allegedly cut into a fence and “tried to free some of the animals” at the fur farm. Police used a K-9 dog and discovered the two dressed in black.
They were charged with 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief, Attempted Burglary and Possession of Burglary Tools.
Although the media has not yet named the farm, I know from personal experience the farm in question is the Circle K Fur Farm. I was charged for the release of 5,000 mink and 100 fox from the same farm in 1998. These are the details of the farm, from The Blueprint fur farm list:
Circle K Fur Farm
3701 Memorial Drive
Sioux City, IA 51104
Phone: (712) 252-2202
Owner: Steven Krage
Status: Confirmed open, 2009.
Species: Mink & fox.
Notes: Approximately 5,000 mink & 100 fox.
Strangely, the arrests of October 10th have received very little attention in the media (as of this writing), and the event somehow escaped mention in the media entirely until a full three days after the incident.
Letters of support and donation for their commissary fund can be sent to:
Kellie Marshall / Victor Vandoren
Woodbury County Jail
PO Box 3083
Sioux City, Iowa 51102
Letters must have a return address. Please write them letters of support today, and let them know the outside world knows they are in jail and are supported.

Walter Bond’s Final Statement to the Court
Utah, October 13, 2011 Today Walter was sentenced to 87 months in prison for the ALF arsons in Utah. This new sentencing will run consecutive with his time in Colorado.
This gives Walter a total of 12 years 3 months for his actions as the ALF Lone Wolf. As of this date he has served 15 months.
"I’m here today because of the arsons I committed at the Tandy Leather Factory in Salt Lake City and the Tiburon restaurant in Sandy, Utah, which sells the incredibly cruel product foie gras. The U.S. attorney wants to give me the maximum sentence and beyond not because of my “crimes” but because I am unrepentant and outspoken. My intuition tells me that this court is not going to show me mercy because I become suddenly sorry. So instead of lying to the court in a feeble attempt to save myself, as I’m certain many do when they face their sentencing day, allow me instead to tell you what I am sorry for.
I am sorry that when I was 19 years old I built two slaughterhouses that are still killing animals even now as I speak. I am sorry that Tandy Leather sells skin that has been ripped from the dead, and often live bodies of such animals as cows, ostriches, rabbits, snakes and pigs. I am sorry that the leather tanneries that supply Tandy Leather Factory poison the Earth with dangerous chemicals. I am sorry that the restaurant Tiburon profits from the force feeding of geese and ducks until their livers explode so that rich people can then use that as a pate for crackers and bread. I am sorry that they make a living from the dead bodies of wild and exotic animals. I am sorry that we live in a day and age where you can rape a child or beat a woman unconscious and receive less prison time than an animal liberation activist that attacked property instead of people.
I am sorry that my brother was so desperate to get out of debt that he flew from Iowa to Colorado just to get me in a taped and monitored conversation for reward money. I am sorry I am biologically related to such a worthless little snitch. I am sorry that I waited so long to become an Animal Liberation Front operative. For all of these things I will always have some regret. But as far as the arsons at the Leather Factory and Tiburon, I have no remorse.
I realize that the laws of the land favor a businesses ability to make a profit over an animals right to life. It also used to favor white business owners ability to profit from a black persons slavery. It also used to favor a husbands ability to viciously attack his wife and act on her as if she were an object. Those who broke the law and damaged property to stand against those oppressions were also called “terrorists” and “fanatics” in their time but that did not change the fact that society progressed and is still progressing along those lines.
So today I’m the bad guy. That is just a matter of historical coincidence. Who knows, perhaps a less brutal and less violent society will one day exist that will understand that life and Earth are more important that products of death and cruelty. And if not then to hell with it all anyway! Weather my supporters or detractors think I am a freedom fighter or a lunatic with a gas can makes no difference to me. I have spent years verifiably promoting, supporting and fighting for Animal Liberation. I have seen the animal victims of human injustice, thousands of them with my own eyes and what I saw was blood, guts and gore! I made a promise to those animals and to myself to fight for them in anyway I could. I regret none of it, and I never will!
You can take my freedom, but you can’t have my submission.

Peru approves ‘historic’ indigenous rights law
On Tuesday night, Peru’s Congress unanimously approved a ‘historic’ new law that guarantees indigenous people’s right to free, prior and informed consent to any projects affecting them and their lands.
President Ollanta Humala says he supports consultation, and now has 15 days to sign the bill into law. It is a significant step away from the policies of former Peruvian President Alan Garcia, who vetoed a similar bill.
The ‘Prior Consultation Law’ complies with commitments set out in ILO Convention 169, the only international law designed to protect tribal people’s rights. Peru ratified the ILO 169 in 1993 but has consistently failed to uphold it, causing widespread unrest amongst the country’s indigenous population. Amazon Indian organization AIDESEP has welcomed the government’s decision, but warned this is just the first step to ensure indigenous rights are guaranteed. ‘We mustn’t fall into false triumphalism. It is now up to the government to form a national indigenous organization… that will uphold strict compliance with this new law.’ Under Alan Garcia, Peruvian Indians experienced unprecedented pressures on their lands as a result of his aggressive development policies.
More than 70% of the Amazon is now divided into oil and gas concessions often without the consent of the indigenous inhabitants.
Survival International’s Director, Stephen Corry, said ‘There are two factors at stake here. Firstly, Humala should support the decision of Congress to approve the Prior Consultation Law. Secondly, the Peruvian Government must commit to upholding it.’

A Câmara Municipal do Porto encerrou a ES.COL.A.

Ex-Black Panther Mumia gets new sentencing hearing
"WASHINGTON (AFP) – A US appeals court ordered a new sentencing hearing Tuesday death row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal, without overturning the guilty verdict of the man who has become a cause celebre for death penalty opponents.
The court in Pennsylvania ruled that Abu-Jamal, a former Black Panther who has languished on death row for nearly 30 years, must have a new sentencing hearing within the next six months.
The 57-year-old African American was sentenced to death in 1982 after being found guilty in the murder of a white policeman -- a crime he has always denied committing..."

Bolivia enshrines natural world's rights
"Law of Mother Earth expected to prompt radical new conservation and social measures in South American nation
Bolivia is set to pass the world's first laws granting all nature equal rights to humans. The Law of Mother Earth, now agreed by politicians and grassroots social groups, redefines the country's rich mineral deposits as "blessings" and is expected to lead to radical new conservation and social measures to reduce pollution and control industry.
The country, which has been pilloried by the US and Britain in the UN climate talks for demanding steep carbon emission cuts, will establish 11 new rights for nature. They include: the right to life and to exist; the right to continue vital cycles and processes free from human alteration; the right to pure water and clean air; the right to balance; the right not to be polluted; and the right to not have cellular structure modified or genetically altered...."

Europe

"The European Medicines Agency has launched a public consultation on the need to revise its position on the replacement of animal studies with alternative models.
The concept paper on the need for revision of the position on the replacement of animal studies by in-vitro models, published this week, discusses the need to update the Agency's 1997 position paper on the feasibility of replacing methods using animals during the development of medicines.
The Agency is considering updating its position, because the past few years have seen a shift towards greater acceptance of in-vitro methods by medicines regulators. Focus has also broadened from an emphasis on the replacement of animal testing to the inclusion of all three 'R's: replacement, reduction and refinement.
The concept paper was prepared by the Safety Working Party and adopted by the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP). It is open for consultation until 30 June 2011."

Australia: Protester was shot in the face
A FEMALE protester has been shot in the face on the opening day of the 2011 duck shooting season in western Victoria this morning.
Activist Julia Symons of Melburne suffered pellet injuries to her face, teeth and hand in a accidental shooting at Lake Buloke, 12km east of Donald in Victoria's west.
Witnesses say Ms Symons, aged in her 20s, was waist-deep in water when she was shot by the hunter, believed to be aiming at a low-flying bird.
Ms Symons was conscious when she was carried from the water by fellow protesters of a duck rescue group. They said she still had pellets lodged in her face, and one of her teeth had been shot out.
She was taken to Horsham Hosptial where she is in a stable condition. Protesters were at the lake to voice their anger at the 2011 hunting season which will see each hunter permitted to kill 10 birds per day.
Today is the first day of the season, which will run until June 13. Shooters as young as 12 are permitted to hunt ducks with valid game hunting licences.

Norway To Shut Down Fur Industry

We hope that this marks the beginning of the end to the fur industry. As more and more people become aware to the horror and injustice that is the fur industry, it is only a matter of time before the industry crumbles, and the cages are smashed to pieces while the animals run free!
All information about this recent decision is being taken from Norwegian news sites, so they are in Norwegian, not english. Here are some translated quotes from todays vote.
“Today was the Labour Party’s national convention in a controlled liquidation of the fur industry. The decision is a major victory in efforts to fur animal freedom. This could mean the beginning of the end for the Norwegian fur farming.
Both political parties, various professional bodies and all animal protection organizations support the requirement for a phasing out of the Norwegian fur farms. Now begins the final stage in the struggle to abolish Norwegian fur farms for good.
The work brings results after the Network for Animal Freedom has revealed animal abuse at Norwegian fur farms for three consecutive years, the debate on fur farms have become an important political issue. Today’s victory also reflects how much enthusiasm for fur animals has become.
Today’s decision of the Labour Party shows that all the activists’ tireless efforts produce results. Work for fur animals’ freedom has yielded results, and the fur industry’s propaganda will no longer dominate.”
“Labor is committed to lay down their fur farming in Norway. It was decided at the party’s national convention Sunday.
A majority of the editorial committee had little faith that fur farming should be conducted in accordance with current requirements for ethical animal husbandry. The proposed controlled liquidation of the about 300 fur farms in operation in Norway today.
As a replacement to those few reorganization to establish new agricultural activities.
Animal Welfare Alliance is celebrating the decision.
- Labor Party has said no animal cruelty, and yes to the voters, “said information officer Live Kleveland Welfare Alliance in a press release Sunday.
At the party congress today voted 125 of 295 delegates to maintain fur farming. The majority of 175 delegates voted to abolish the industry.
- This is a historic victory, because it is the first time Labor takes a stand in favor of animal protection at a national convention. Now we work for the fur farming is finally liquidated in 2013, continues Kleveland in Animal Welfare Alliance.
There was a strong reaction after the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation in late October last year revealed widespread abuse of animals in the fur industry. NRK showed pictures of animals with avbitte bones, tails and ears and animals with bite injuries.
Animal Norway and the Network for Animal Freedom visited in the last 40 fur farms from Agder in the south of Nordland in the north.
The result was thousands of pictures and several hours of video documentation of mink and fox with serious injuries and illnesses. (Warning about strong images in the link above).
Fur industry is disappointed
Norway Pelsdyralslag are disappointed the Labour Party’s decision to go for liquidation of fur industry. – But it is not the hook on the door, “said Chairman Bertran Trane Skadsem.
- Immediately I will say that this is a sad day for the fur industry and for Norwegian agriculture. That said, there is also a very unsettled situation, “Skadsem NTB.”

Yonatan Pollack is free and back in action
"Left-wing anarchist Yonatan Pollack emerged from prison itching to
rejoin separation fence protests. He also expresses a certain yearning
for Tahrir Square.
Three days after leaving prison, Yonatan Pollack was already sitting in a house in the Palestinian town of Budrus as if he'd never left. The boy in the yard calls the 29-year old anarchist 'the man with the drawings on his arms', referring to his tattoos.
For two months he sat in the Hermon prison up north, cell number one, building 24, section four; just Pollack and his cellmate, Ali Tarar, who has been claiming that he is innocent of the murder of Danny Katz for over 26 years. Pollack has been serving a sentence for a more minor transgression - participating in an illegal gathering. In 2008 he took part in a protest rally on bicycles in Tel Aviv where he was arrested by police detectives who recognized him. Judge Yitzhak Yitzhak sentenced him to a three month sentence due to an existing probationary sentence over his part in protests against the separation fence."

Natural Remedies Ban
Natural Remedies Ban Hits EU April 30, ACT NOW!
On April 30th, natural medicinal plant products (essentially
anything other than the petro-chemically derived fare of multinational
pharmaceutical companies) will be effectively banned in the EU. The
registration procedure costs that will be going into effect will be
completely prohibitive. If for no other reason than protesting the criminal
nature of this effort (whether you're aware of the long-term physiological
damage of many big pharma preparations or not) go to this link and sign the
petition. Only you and I can stop Big Pharma domination. They intend to,
and ARE GOING TO, protect their incomes unless actively stopped. Sit in
silence, and pay the consequences. Time is running out. If it's not
stopped in the EU, we may NOT be able to stop it elsewhere.

Okupas de Tacheles (Berlin) desokupam por dinheiro
from: http://www.ionline.pt/conteudo/115922-a-casa-okupada-mais-famosa-do-mundo-perde-metade-dos-inquilinos
